DxO offers a Lightroom plugin with the goal of allowing users to keep Lightroom as their catalog manager, but conflicts between RAW processing engines prevent this from being a viable solution. PhotoLab includes an updated library management tool, but it still needs a lot of additional features before it’s actually ready to replace your current digital asset manager. For photographers focused on color accuracy, this latest version also includes support for DCP profiles. A number of other excellent automatic adjustments simplify the editing process, and newly-added localized editing tools allow you to fine-tune their results more effectively than in the past. As you might expect from them, PhotoLab provides excellent automatic lens corrections and a truly incredible noise reduction algorithm they call PRIME. Budget wise it worked.PhotoLab is a RAW editor from DxO, a company famous for its precision testing of optical equipment. Photolab 6 essential offers less (doesnt have DeepPRIME and DeepPRIME XD) but has the RAW conversion that I was looking for plus its always upgradable later. I tried PureRaw recently and it have very limited user controls, mostly automated but that may have changed? PhotoLab 6 elite is p. You may want to run the trial versions of these programs to see if you like them or how they perform on your system. If your machine lacks this, then image exporting will be painfully slow. But many edits are possible in PS that are impossible, or very clumsy, in PL.īut, one warning: the powerful raw NR features in the DxO products are compute-intensive, and benefit greatly from a modern, high-powered GPU. In general, if both PhotoLab and Photoshop can both do a particular image edit profile, it will usually be much easier in PL. Both have excellent lab test-based lens correction and AI NR tools, much superior to those in Adobe products. PL6 is a raw developer and non-destructive editor, while PR3 is a just a basic raw developer with very few user controls. OK, in that case, then either DxO PhotoLab Elite 6 or PureRAW 3 could be good options for you. I know that older versions don't work with RAW from newer cameras. Editing is done on Photoshop - but not the subscription version. No computer problems, no updates and Photoshop 4 or 5 at the time was fine. Lived where no internet was available and solar cells/battery power was all we had. A few of those it did not go online at all. It is for images, editing and printing from digital files.īefore getting a new work computer two years ago I had the same one for ten years. Why? I have my lenses and don't see buying more for some time. If you - or your service guy - only go online once a year then down DxO optic modules is going to be a bit tricky. However, Affinity Photo is not nearly as capable a raw converter as PhotoLab is. For that sort of thing, I use Affinity Photo, which is very capable and very reasonably-priced ($70). PhotoLab Elite is my main raw converter, and on the whole I really like it and think it's the best raw converter that exists.īut much of what most people do in Photoshop proper is difficult or impossible to do in PhotoLab. If somehow you perform the large majority of your editing work not really in Photoshop proper but actually in Adobe Camera Raw, and especially if most of what you do in Photoshop proper is parametric instead of pixel editing, then DxO PhotoLab Elite might be a good substitute. You can download trial programs to see if you like them. Affinity is an alternative to Photoshop, not the same power but is ok. I ended up getting the Photolab 6 essential for raw processing and Topaz AI for denoise and sharpening. You may be able to get Bridge 2023 as a browser but it will not have camera raw unless you subscribe. I enjoyed Bridge but now have Windows 11 and the old Bridge isnt compatible. I still have PSshop CS6 also and use it in post. Photolab is more of a RAW and Image processing program, very good with colors. Able to use NIK Silver Efex Pro.ĭon't use lightroom but do use Bridge for basic editing - then Photoshop for the image work. Yes, I'm using Photoshop CS6 and it does what I want. Don't like a subscription service - my work/image computer does not go online more than once a year when the service guy checks stuff out.ĭxO Photo Lab Elite - how does it compare to Phototoshop?
