The first twelve volumes of The Bulletin were published over a seventy year period, from 1934, the year the Club was founded, through 2003. Bill's advice was also invalu able regarding many aspects of the printing of the index including paper selection and the various types of cover bindings that were considered. When we first began working on The Index our plan was to include a pictorial index in addition to a subject and an author index. William Blaney, then editor of The Bulletin, published a pictorial index covering the first six volumes. Longtime members will recall that in 1975 One of the features of The Index is a pictorial index. The Co1nprehensive Index could have been created. Over the past two and a half years she did just that and spent over 1100 hours doing it. And although she probably did not realize what she was getting into, she also volunteered to input all of the data into the program. Debra, who is a computer expert, offered to write a software program that would compile the index. The problem was solved when Debra Brewitt, one of our members, heard about the problem and volunteered her services. It did not seem the way to go for a one time use. Computer software for creating indexes does exist and is usedīy book publishing companies, but it is expensive and its use req ires a long learning curve includ ![]() However the task of creating a comprehensive index appeared monumental. For anyone doing research it was a chore to pull out each volume and its index especially when some of the indexes were far from complete.
